Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) was founded by a group of physicians who shared a vision to establish a modern private hospital that is easily accessible and capable of addressing the comprehensive healthcare needs of the people. At the time, many patients seeking high-quality medical care were forced to travel abroad for treatment. This inspired the idea that if Thailand had hospitals capable of delivering services at international standards, it would significantly enhance the quality of life for people in the country.
Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Company Limited was officially established on October 30, 1969. Construction of the hospital building began shortly after on Soi Soonvijai, Phetchaburi Road, under the name “Bangkok Hospital.” The hospital officially opened its doors to the public on February 26, 1971, with a clear vision to become a leading healthcare provider that meets international standards and delivers world-class medical services.
the hospital offered medical services in four main departments: Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, and Pediatrics. Over time, it gradually expanded—introducing additional departments, increasing medical staff, and raising the number of inpatient beds. The hospital also extended its treatment facilities and infrastructure to accommodate the growing demand for healthcare services from the public.
With a strong commitment to making quality healthcare services accessible to all Thai people, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) has expanded its operations to every region across the country. The company has established a nationwide network by partnering with various hospital groups, combining their strengths in healthcare services. This collaboration aims to continuously enhance the quality of medical care and elevate healthcare standards to an international level.
Currently, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (BDMS) operates a comprehensive healthcare network consisting of six major hospital groups in Thailand: the Bangkok Hospital Group, Samitivej Hospital Group, BNH Hospital, Phyathai Hospital Group, and Paolo Hospital Group, with a total of 47 hospitals nationwide. Additionally, the Royal Hospital Group operates two hospitals in Cambodia: Royal Angkor International Hospital in Siem Reap and Royal Phnom Penh Hospital in Phnom Penh.
In 2019, BDMS expanded its healthcare services by launching the BDMS Wellness Clinic on Wireless Road in central Bangkok. This clinic was established to meet the needs of modern lifestyles, focusing not only on healthcare but also on preventive and proactive wellness to promote long-term health and quality of life.
Beyond general medical services, BDMS has also established a Trauma Center, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and supported by a team of highly experienced doctors, nurses, and multidisciplinary professionals. The center is prepared to respond to emergency cases 24 hours a day, with nationwide coordination.
In addition, BDMS has launched the BDMS Emergency Services (BES) to provide emergency medical transportation at all levels — from basic care to advanced critical care by specialized medical teams. Patient transfers are available by land, water, and air.
Today, BDMS is recognized as the largest private hospital network in Thailand and one of the top five globally.
